Artist's Description
During his Paris period, Vincent Van Gogh had already painted several still lifes with shoes and boots as the main motif. However, he painted this Pair of Shoes on a red-tile floor later on, in 1888 in Arles .
Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) was the most famous Dutch post-impressionist painter of all time and among the most influential artists in the history of Western art. He produced about 2100 artworks in just over a decade. including 860 oil paintings. He painted portraits and self-portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Van Gogh used a dramatically expressive brushwork and bold colors. He was a major contributor to the foundations of modern art. Sadly he did not sell any painting during his lifetime, suffered from severe depression, and committed suicide at 37.
