Description
Vincent Van Gogh painted Wheat Field with Cypresses in the asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, in southern France in late June 1889. In September he did two studio versions of this painting, one of a similar size and a smaller version that he shipped to his mother and sister as a gift.
Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) was the most famous Dutch post-impressionist painter of all time and among the most influential artists in the history of Western art. He produced about 2100 artworks in just over a decade. including 860 oil paintings. He painted portraits and self-portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Van Gogh used a dramatically expressive brushwork and bold colors. He was a major contributor to the foundations of modern art. Sadly he did not sell any painting during his lifetime, suffered from severe depression, and committed suicide at 37.
